in 2001, when I decided once and for all that I needed to reinvent my
career to be more service oriented and less “corporate,” I
researched the 10 leading coaching schools with the rigor and the jaundiced
eye of a marketer on a mission. Lucky me: I found Pam McLean and The Hudson
Institute. The Hudson Institute (HI), founded in 1986, is a training ground
where leaders and professionals can learn how to sustain resilience, future
vision, and renewal within themselves and the environments in which they
live and work. Through seminars, consultations, coaching training programs,
and its products, the Institute has worked with thousands of leaders and
hundreds of organizations. It is widely known as “the Harvard of
coaching schools,” a testament to the rigor of the curriculum and
the accomplishments of its faculty and students. The Hudson Institute provides many of the tools and models that Bruce Leamon (a fellow alum) and I leverage regularly in our work with corporate clients. Their model, The Cycle of Renewal, lays the foundation for the many searing conversations we must have to be effective coaches.
